Dear amorcitx:
It’s been about a month since I last reached out to let you know about my new book, the matchstick litanies.
I've been fortunate to have Carmen Calatayud write a review on La Bloga: https://labloga.blogspot.com/2023/11/guest-review-matchstick-litanies.html
And the Letras Latinas blog featured an interview with me and Laura Villarreal: https://www.letraslatinasblog2.com/the-review/categories/hecho-en-casa
I've also had the pleasure of reading from the book in three cities I have called home: RGV, San Antonio, and Austin. My ability to read without a pained face has improved. I could even laugh a little between poems, you know, like those folks who can make you smile a little when you’ve just been hit with something devastating. I’m that person and I always try to make myself laugh (and be thankful).
I have another couple of readings in December and January but, before those I have my first virtual reading! I’m especially hoping to connect with those who I can’t see in person but everyone is welcome!
This Thursday, November 30 at 7pm CST Cesar L. de Leon and I will be reading and Joaquin Muerte will be our resident DJ. Come through and listen to some music connected to the matchstick litanies. Cesar’s award-winning book, Speaking with Grackles by Soapberry Trees, was one of the touchstones for my own work around family. And Joaquin is a music wizard in all realms. Registration is required: https://bit.ly/thematchsticklitanies1130
Come through. Be one of those folks who can listen, connect, and can then laugh a little with me. I’d love to see your face.
Abrazos,
jo
